In terms of my specific experience, it was wonderful. The castle was certainly one of the most beautiful structures I've ever seen, both from an architectural and a decorative standpoint. I didn't put up all of the pictures I took because there were so many, but suffice it to say that every single room in the entire castle (again...there were MANY) was decorated with the most extraordinary detail I've ever seen in a building. It was unbelievable. For every inch of such a massive structure to have such ornate detail really blew me away. So...take a look at some of the stuff for yourself in my pictures below...
The only thing that wasn't amazing was the fact that the chapel, which is one of the most infamous rooms in all of Denmark, was closed because there was a church service going on (see a picture of it on the wikipedia page--it looks incredible). What bothered me the most was that our leader from the DIS program said something along the lines of "we're so sorry you can't see the chapel, guys--we didn't know there was going to be a service when we booked the tour." I thought to myself (or maybe said to the kid next to me), "Well maybe they shouldn't have booked it on a Sunday...stupid idiots." It must just be that since a majority of the Danish people aren't religious, they forgot that Sunday is a holy day...regardless, I had a great time and I hope to be able to go back in the spring when we can see the famous gardens and surrounding lands that were all frozen.
